Babbage's role in this greenfield project included a Feasibility Study, Project Management, Construction Management, Project Engineering, Financial Control and Procurement, Health and Safety Advisory, and Technical Design.
Babbage’s Project Management team, assisted by our technical team of Architects, Engineers and Planners, provided the Site Master Plan and Concept Design of the Milk Reception, Drying Tower and Warehouse for investment approval.
Calder Stewart was the contractor for this design-build contract.
After understanding the client’s needs, we provided Project Management, Construction Management and Technical Consultancy services for the following deliverables of the services plant:
Services building: The services building is a part of the MVM Stage 1 development. It is 989m2 and comprises of concrete precast and timber framed walls clad in Titan board and metal cladding. Roof construction is combination of membrane on concrete and metal cladding. The building houses laboratory, water treatment building, offices, amenities, MCC, compressor room and other service rooms.
Tanker wash facility: Babbage provided the full design of the facility. Calder Stewart carried out civil and drainage works. bMac Engineering Ltd was the contractor for structural steel, pipework, and fittings. EIS was engaged as the electrical and automation contractor to bMac.
Site data comms: The contract was awarded to Industrial Controls South Canterbury Ltd.
Water and wastewater tanks: Rendertech Ltd was awarded the contract.
Bore water mechanical works: bMac was the contractor to supply, install and commission bores in this contract. They subcontracted drilling works to local specialists. With the good relationship that Babbage had developed with the local council, the bMac and Babbage team found the right technical solution and local council support to drill under and around the MVM site and delivered this contract successfully.
Water treatment plant – to treat the bore water: Filtec was the contractor.
Water sampling system (flume monitoring): The contract was awarded to BPO.
Chilled water plant: Active Refrigeration was the contractor.
Compressed air plant: Atlas Copco was awarded the contract.
Pipebridge: Babbage provided the full design of the pipebridge. bMac Engineering Ltd was the contractor.
Coal fired boiler (18.5MW) plant: RCR Energy was the contractor.
Bulk chemicals: IXON (formerly Orica NZ) supplied bulk chemicals contract.
Fire pumps, site private fire water main and associated equipment: Fire Solutions Ltd was awarded the contract.
Packing gases: BOC Ltd was the contractor.
Wastewater treatment plant: Filtec was the contractor.
Our journey with the MVM Stage 1 development took two years and over 800,000 site hours. A great milestone for MVM Ltd, its owners, shareholders, staff, and surrounding community.
