Babbage Australia provided project management, design coordination and process engineering services for the delivery of three plastic recycling facilities across Australia for Circular Plastics Australia (CPA). Supporting Australia's transition to a circular economy, the facilities process post-consumer PET, HDPE and PP plastics into food-grade recycled resin for new packaging.
With a combined processing capacity of approximately 60,000 tonnes of plastic per year, the facilities divert the equivalent of more than 2.5 billion plastic containers from landfill annually.
Our team managed the installation of process services and recycling equipment, design coordination, procurement of installation contracts, construction management and commissioning. Working closely with the client, contractors, local authorities and international equipment suppliers, Babbage successfully navigated COVID-19 lockdowns, travel restrictions and global supply chain challenges while maintaining programme certainty.
The projects were delivered within budget, with the overall programme completed one month ahead of schedule. The Albury facility, delivered in just one year and five days from first sod to producing on-spec recycled resin, formed part of the project recognised with the Australian Institute of Project Management's Sustainable Project Management Achievement Award 2022.
These projects demonstrate Babbage's capability to deliver complex waste and resource recovery infrastructure through integrated project management, technical coordination and practical engineering solutions.
