Supporting the expansion of New Zealand's food distribution infrastructure, Babbage was engaged to provide engineering services for Lactalis-Mainland Dairy's (Fonterra Brands) new 6,600m² Ambient, Cool and Cold Storage Distribution Centre, designed and constructed by Calder Stewart.
The new facility strengthens the company's storage and distribution capability, providing purpose-built ambient, cool and cold storage to support the efficient movement of dairy products throughout New Zealand.
Working alongside the project team from the earliest stages, Babbage provided multidisciplinary technical expertise across the project lifecycle, helping to ensure the facility was practical, coordinated and fit for purpose. Our services included:
Site selection and due diligence
Design coordination
Structural engineering
Mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design, including a CO₂ refrigeration system
Fire engineering
Delivering industrial facilities of this scale requires close collaboration between clients, designers and contractors. By integrating multiple engineering disciplines, Babbage helped streamline the design process and support the successful delivery of a highly functional distribution centre.
This project reflects our continued involvement in New Zealand's food and dairy sector, where we work with clients to deliver practical, efficient infrastructure that supports manufacturing, storage and distribution. Facilities such as this play an important role in strengthening supply chain resilience while incorporating modern, energy-efficient engineering solutions to meet current operational and environmental expectations.
