Auckland Central Library Green Roof System

Babbage’s Remediation Team ensured that the delivery of this project aligned with the current roof build-up and optimised its design to achieve its full potential as a functioning green roof.
As the largest example of a green roof on a council-owned building, this project acts as an integral component for the introduction of similar projects within our city – increasing our future potential for sustainable and environmentally beneficial landscape designs on inner-city buildings.
Besides the building envelope, the team considered implications on the New Zealand Building Act, Building Code, sustainability features, and other relevant statutory legislation when conducting the reports and designs.
This project required the Remediation Team to liaise and co-ordinate with various stakeholders from Auckland Council, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, project managers and contractors. In all cases, the team maintained a high level of professionalism, visiting Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei hub and speaking with representatives to ensure they were well represented throughout the project.
The Auckland City Central Library, was kept open during construction which was a key part of the procurement strategy and the main contractor maintained minimal amounts of disruption, allowing the users to continue enjoyment of the library.
Our surveyors worked closely with our in-house Building Services engineers to assist the main contractor with all temporary works required to ensure the building remained operational.
