Sharing Perspectives and Solutions: Reflections from NZTIWF 2025

This week Sasha Eremin (Environmental Scientist) and Mariana Basilio (Senior Environmental and Spatial Consultant at BEnviro (a Babbage company)), attended the NZTIWF in Lower Hutt.
It was an exciting and insightful event, bringing together industry experts - tradewaste officers, councils, and consultants - to discuss pressing issues in trade waste, industrial waste and wastewater management.
A key theme was the sector’s concern about new legislative changes and their potential long-term impacts on the environment. It was great to be part of these conversations and hear diverse perspectives.
Sasha delivered a compelling presentation on the significance of dairy wastewater irrigation on land - highlighting challenges, practical solutions, and the risks of unclear consent conditions. His message on being proactive rather than reactive in compliance resonated strongly.
A highlight was meeting with one of the speakers at Parliament to raise concerns about non-compliance at high-risk stormwater sites.
Finally, it was valuable to hear directly from Taumata Arowai about anticipated regulatory changes and what these could mean for compliance in the future.
Overall, a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from peers, and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving space.
